Zummi Gummi

Zummi is the eldest of the Glens and their magihistorian. A little older than Grammi, Zummi is the magician of the Glens, although he

is not the best. He remains a peaceful and hopeful gummi, always hoping for alliance and friendship, often casting reason or

caution to the wind. Forever a peacemaker, he is a gentle soul, rarely losing his temper. But that is not all there is to this

elder bear.

Zummi has a best friend, one he's known since cubhood. He and Grammi grew up together, being the only playmates

available for one another in the Glen. Zummi was a smart cub and Grammi was fearless. As their caregivers found out

this was a dangerous combination. Grammi and Zummi are still fairly close as adults, often defending the others' talents and

beliefs. As seen in Little Bears Lost, the two do sometimes argue, but inwardly never forget how there were there for one

another as children. Rather it be for an adventure or to scare off bugs, Zummi has always been there for Grammi.

Zummi is the 'grandfather' of the Glen.  Well versed in Gummi history and traditions, Zummi is known for his talks of the

Gummi past, and the ancient legends surrounding their ancestors' departure. He believes in preserving their pasts, most

notably in their books and the Great Book. He never tires of searching through them and is often found in the library,

seated in his favorite chair. The cubs can often be found listening to another  one of Zummi's tales. Zummi is a gentle

Gummi, hardly ever losing his temper and more often than not giving into outward pressure.

Zummi is a magician first and foremost. Although definitely an amateur in the field, Zummi's weakness seems to be

mainly his memory. He has one spell known by heart, a lamp lighting spell that he first memorized in Zummi Makes

It Hot. Zummi reads other spells from Great book or from notes he carries in his hat and shirt. Most of Zummi's spells

cause more harm than help but a few have aided the Glens significantly. His weakness in magic is mostly due to the fact

that he has little confidence in his abilities. His lamp lighting spell is the one spell he knows that he can do and it always

succeeds.

Zummi is not a stickler for the Gummi Way as Gruffi is, however he does carry a great amount of pride in his heritage.

Zummi's one spot that is firm and strong centers on the Great Book of Gummi. In Sweet and Sour Gruffi, Gruffi rips the

Great Book and in a rage, Zummi casts a dangerous personality spell on him. Another example is in For Whom the Spell Holds.

When Sunni nearly spills jam on the Great book, Zummi, in Sunni's words, 'bites her head off.' Zummi is in general a gentle

magician but do not insult his magic or the Great Book's knowledge or he will reveal a very unknown temper.

Zummi is a sweet character overall. However, when it came to faults, Zummi had a few. His memory and temper

a few. While his memory was not perfect, the Glen could remember when necessary as shown in Zummi Makes It Hot.

And his loyalty towards Gummi magic and the Great Book was immense. As seen in For Whom the Spell Holds,

Zummi is willing to conquer anything for the Great Book, which he believes give shim a purpose.  His fear of heights is

immense but if he has to, he can conquer it. When it came to aiding the Glens in getting their water repaired, this fear

easily conquered him but in the case of getting back the Great Book, he did not blink an eye.

Zummi and Gruffi's relationship is very unique. The two are in constant battle. Gruffi believes that Zummi should not try magic

at all. "with you and your memory it's just too dangerous." Zummi, meanwhile, believes it is his life. The two argue on magic,

Gummi involvement in human lives, and many other things. Gruffi is an eternal pessimist, Zummi the eternal optimist. Gruffi

is cautious and Zummi is trusting. They are as different as hot and cold. However Gruffi cares deeply for Zummi, even if he is

in Gruffi's mind, crazy. Now, getting Gruffi to admit it is something else.

You can meet other bears.

If ya want, go home.
